Featured author - Anthony Browne

Anthony Browne is a children's book writer and illustrator from England. He has won lots of awards, and has been recognised as being an important contributor to children's reading.

Here's what Anthony has to say about his books and about reading....
Gorillas feature in many of Anthony’s books. He says, “I am fascinated by them and the contrast they represent – their huge strength and gentleness. They’re thought of as being very fierce creatures and they’re not.”
In 2009 Anthony Browne was announced as a the Children's Laureate. That is someone recognised for their skill in writing for children, and for the importance that their writing has in children's lives. People who receive this recognition usually want to promote reading.

“I hope to encourage more children to discover and love reading, but I want to focus particularly on the appreciation of picture books…. Picture books are for everybody at any age, not books to be left behind as we grow older. The best ones leave a tantalising gap between the pictures and the words, a gap that is filled by the reader's imagination, adding so much to the excitement of reading a book.”

We now have quite a few BRAND NEW copies of Anthony Browne's very clever books that he has written and illustrated. I think these might be some of my new favourite books! I especially liked Piggybook.
