Ko Tāne me ngā Kete o te Wānanga- Tāne and the Kete of Knowledge

You will find this pūrākau (myth, legend, story) in our Whare Mātauranga (library), it is called Māui's Taonga Tales - a treasury of stories from Aotearoa and the Pacific. Be sure to check out this pukapuka (book) when we return to kura (school). 

Whakapiri mai ki a Māui me āna paki taonga mā ngā tamariki mai i ngā kohinga taonga a Te Papa. Join Māui as he shares stories for tamariki based on taonga from the Te Papa collection.

Hint: remember to turn on the subtitles, this will help you to understand the pūrākau and help you to learn some kupu hou (new words).

Have you ever read a book in a tent?

There is now a tent in our Whare Mātauranga (library). There are some tikanga (rules) to follow while you are using the tent. Check out these ngā pikitia (pictures).

Tuatahi (first)- You see a librarian or an adult in charge for a tent pass.


Tuarua (second)- Put your tent pass around your neck and choose a pukapuka (book).


Tuatoru (third)- Enjoy reading your pukapuka.


Tuawha (fourth)- When you have finished reading in the tent, hand your tent pass to a librarian or an adult who is on library duty.

It's Green week next week!

 For our last week of the term, we will be celebrating Green Week. A notice went home yesterday, sharing all of the activities that will be happening next week. Come along and get involved in all that our Green Week has to offer!

Our Whare Mātauranga (library) has a lot of ngā pukapuka (books) about  Green Week topics.    Here are just a few of the ngā pukapuka that you can read when you visit the Whare Mātauranga.

Our focus for this Green week is Compost. We will be learning about the importance of turning food scraps into compost and how it can help our plants to grow.

Ngā pukapuka hou!

Mothers Day/Wahine toa celebration!

Today in the Whare Mātauranga we had a Mothers Day drawing competition. Tamariki came along and drew a picture for their special person 
(Mum, Nana, Aunty etc).

Lest we forget! ANZAC day.

The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. 

Andee has created a wonderful ANZAC display for our tamariki to look at and learn from. Ask Andee questions about the display, as it is about a member of her whānau. Tēnā koe, Andee for sharing this with us. Come along and check it out. Take this opportunity to learn more about ANZAC day, and the history of it.  Share what you know in a comment below. 

 


You may be wondering why we have chosen to do this post now. Well because we will be on holiday during this time. We (the library team) thought let's provide the opportunity for our tamariki to learn more about ANZAC day, so that they may develop a greater understanding and appreciation of this public holiday.

Remember to show Manaakitanga while enjoying the beanbags.

Kaupapa Moana- Sea Week

This week is Sea Week. For us at kura, this ties in nicely with the Pakirehua (Inquiry) we are doing - YOE- Young Oceans Explorers 21 day challenge. 

We are learning about what lives in our moana and how we can be kaitiaki.

The AMAZING SPIDER.........
