"Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the landing of New Zealand and Australian troops, popularly known as Anzacs (the acronym of Australia and New Zealand Army Corps), at Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey in 1915. The attempt to capture the peninsula failed. However, New Zealand and Australia strengthened their ties during the campaign." - Te Ara - The Encyclopedia of New Zealand
